NCDOT Approved Qualified Work Zone Supervisor Training Information
As part of NCDOT’s implementation of the FHWA Final Rule on Safety and Mobility, all personnel in charge of overseeing Work Zone Temporary Traffic Control operations and installations inside the Highway Right of Way will be trained in a NCDOT Approved Qualified Work Zone Supervisor training course. A written test and verified on-the-job training (OJT) will be required. A Qualified Work Zone Traffic Control Supervisor will carry a card issued by the qualifying firm that shows the dates of qualification, with re-qualification required at regular intervals, currently set by the NCDOT at 4 years.
Kellenberger Engineering (KBE) has developed and is delivering a NCDOT Approved Qualified Work Zone Supervisor training course. The course is delivered over 2 full consecutive days. Course participants will be provided with course materials, will participate in work zone design sessions and will take a test at the end of the class. To become a Qualified Work Zone Supervisor, you must pass a test with a grade of 70 or better, have at least 2 years employer-verifiable prior experience in Work Zone Traffic Control and have submitted an application to become a Qualified Work Zone Supervisor. Qualification as a Work Zone Traffic Control Flagger is a desired, but not required prerequisite. If you are not a NCDOT Qualified Work Zone Flagger, additional training will be provided at the end of the first day of class.
For clients in the Raleigh, NC area with 10 or more trainees, KBE will come to your location to deliver an on-site course. For clients outside of the Raleigh, NC area with 15 or more trainees, KBE will come to your location to deliver an on-site course.
